Several years ago, it was not that easy to find gluten-free soups. In fact, most mainstream companies that make soup used wheat flour as a thickener. Today, more and more companies are removing gluten from soups. There are now several new gluten-free soup lines available as well.

With cooler weather headed our way, soup will soon be part of our meal plan on a regular basis. It was 66 degrees here this morning and the high will be almost 90. However, in a few short weeks it will definitely be time to get our soup on!

Over at Celiac-Disease.com, we’ve profiled several gluten-free soup options. It’s so nice to be able to choose from so many terrific soups these days!

Progresso offers many gluten-free options and continues to expand their offerings.

Bear Creek has some gluten-free options, but they are not labeled as such.

Gluten-free Cafe launches gluten-free soup line.

Health Valley changed their tune about soups they previously stated were gluten-free.

Imagine makes over 30 gluten-free soups and introduced two gluten-free ready-made gravies last fall.

The companies listed below make some gluten-free soups. All but one of them also makes gluten soups so you’ll want to look for “gluten-free” on the label. Kettle Cuisine soups are frozen and all 10 options in the line are gluten-free. Several of them are dairy free as well.

*Please note this list is not comprehensive.

Amy’s Kitchen

Fantastic World Foods

Pacific Natural Foods

Several gluten-free soups are available from Amazon.com. As long as you know which soups you like, you can save money and get free shipping (orders of $25 or more) by ordering some items online.

Usually the first thing I hear from people when they are newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease or some form of gluten intolerance is the shock of how expensive gluten free foods are. The reason for these high costs is the small market for gluten free foods. The lower demand for these products causes carriers of gluten free food to charge more to stay in business.

I think in time specialty stores will continue to become more popular and competition in the gluten free foods market will continue to grow, which will ultimately force prices down to a more manageable level. We are also seeing more mainstream grocery stores carrying at least a few gluten free foods in their stores.

In the meantime, I usually recommend people begin to plan ahead and do much of their gluten free shopping online. Buying online, combined with buying in bulk, will go a long way towards keeping food expenses down!

Where Can I Buy Gluten Free Foods Online?

In my experience, there are currently two great places to buy gluten free foods online. The first, and my preference, is shopping at Amazon. Their prices are already the best online and you can get free shipping if you purchase $25.00 or more (easy to do if buying in bulk or when buying multiple foods at one time). The other choice is shopping at the Gluten Free Mall, which I have also heard several people say they’ve had good experiences with.

Lastly, if you prefer having meals already made when they arrive at your door, then you’ll want to check out Gluten Free Meals. Simply order online and when the food arrives, throw it in the freezer. It will be ready to eat whenever you aren’t in the mood to cook!

UPDATE: There are now more options than ever for online gluten-free shopping. Some newer websites are:

Gluten Solutions

Gluten-free Trading Company
